30. Candidates must have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide general Orthopedic services and procedures, to include, but not limited to the following: Casts, Posterior plaster splints, Apply casts, Bivalve casts, Hand dressings, Slings, closed fracture reductions and apply figure-of-eight. Measure/adjust axillary crutches and canes, Volar splints, Reinforce cracked casts, Remove casts, Velpeau dressing and splint fingers. Candidates must show ability to interpret laboratory tests, radiological studies and ECG's. Ability to work responsibly with physicians and other members of the medical team and deal effectively with patients. Ability to interpret and apply AR 40-501 that regulates medical fitness standards and profiles. Duties include examining, diagnosing, and treating walk-in and/or clinic appointment patients with orthopedic illnesses and injuries. Recognizing more complicated cases and emergency medical problems and referring to a higher level of medical expertise for diagnosis and/or treatment. Providing follow-up care on patients previously seen in the clinic.Candidates must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) on behalf of the American Medical Association and be qualified by academic and practical education to provide patient services as a physician extender under supervision of a physician.

Candidates must have and maintain certification as a physician assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Have and maintain a valid, unrestricted license in one of the 50 states in the U.S. or the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands; HI licensure is not required. Have and maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) with hands-on training through an American Heart Association approved training program. Online certification is unacceptable.

A minimum of one year of experience within the last three years working as an Orthopedic Physician Assistant.
