Sony Media Software & Services (SMSS) is a division of Sony Corporation of America, a leading entertainment company of audio, video, communications and information technology products, for consumer and professional markets. The Network Platform group for SMSS provides infrastructure systems for services such as registration, billing, customer service tools, and storefront management tools for PLAYSTATION®Network.


2>The Software Release Engineer will be teamed with Technical, QA, and Project / Release Managers to ensure that the necessary release management infrastructure is in place to guarantee that new development maintenance, maintenance releases and emergency fixes have the proper technical configuration and environment setup for success. 

A successful candidate will participate in change management, release management, coordination efforts with external partners and internal development teams  as it pertains to release dependencies, and provide release and change management technical components and procedures..


2>Designs and implements release and change management procedures that are used to support product development and use.



PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBLITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

* Create required release technical documents in accordance with the standards.

* Interacts with management to support and help develop, track and coordinate release schedules and external planning of releases.

* Participates and drives release team and development coordination meetings, coordinates issues and facilitates solutions pertaining to the release process, and maintains release documentation.

* Manages the development of the technical dependencies in the release process end-to-end, from the planning of release technology dependencies through to the actual release deployment to production.

* Coordinates any release dependencies with all external and internal parties.

* Works with the Configuration Management team to facilitate the architecture and deployment of approved changes.

* Manages the end-to-end release process as part of the Software Development Life Cycle.



EDUCATION  / TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE

* Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Math or related field.

* Several years experience in managing software releases in a web and client server / distributed technology environment.

* Experience with modern software configuration management tools (Perforce preferred) and development methodologies

* Proven experience with participating and delivering on multiple projects simultaneously.

* Thorough understanding of software development life cycle activities.

* Strong organizational, communication, and conflict management skills

* Software experience must include Microsoft Office, Visio, Power Point and Microsoft Project.

* Must have a some understanding of RM Best Practices and high availability software architecture design principles

* Must have familiarity using the following tools / products:

o Configuration Management & Source Control tools such as ClearCase, Perforce, PVCS, VSS, etc.

o Integration / build experience with large scale, multi-service architectures

o Experience with HTML, VB, Java, XML, ASP, .Net, Apache, SQL, PHP, Perl, CGI or Unix Shell scripting, ANT or MAKE scripting

o Java, C, C++ development languages

o Desirable to have exposure to open source web technologies and development



COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

* Strong organizational, communication and leadership skills
