Job Description:
Personnel in the Configurable Digital Logic Design Department develop FPGA designs for all major vendors and device families, including: Xilinx, Altera, Lattice, and Actel. Designs are developed using VHDL for the following applications: high speed serial interfaces, DSP, embedded processing and processor interfaces. Designers work with circuit card designers and systems engineers to develop requirements, architect new parts, partition and perform code development, simulation, place and route, and verification. Design support is expected from requirements definition through integration and test. Design documentation and configuration management is required.
Required Skills for Senior Electrical Engineer II:
Minimum 6 years of electrical design experience with a minimum 5 years FPGA design experience required. Must have written VHDL, simulated, synthesized, placed and routed, and integrated and tested multiple designs on hardware. Fluent in simulation tools such as ModelSim or NC Sim, synthesis tools such as Synplify, and back-end tools such as Xilinx ISE, Altera Quartus, or other FPGA vendor tools. Chip Scope and iBERT experience, or experience with other embedded and high speed analysis tools, a plus. Knowledge of C programming and/or scripting languages is a plus. Experience with embedded processor cores such as Microblaze, Nios, or PPC family a strong plus. Candidates must have understanding and appreciation of technical themes and concepts and the ability to develop solutions independently, but also be able to work with Systems Engineers and Software teams to define requirements. Must work closely with the circuit card design engineers to ensure functional, electrical and physical design constraints are clearly communicated and mutually agreeable. Must have led or have the potential to lead a team of firmware designers or have significant unique technical knowledge in an area. Must understand, demonstrate and instill the importance of simulation, verification, embedded diagnostics, BIT/BIST and regression testing.
If previous experience is with ASIC design, must be strong in verification and timing closure. Must be familiar with foundry offerings, development flows, qualification strategies, libraries, and a variety of feature sizes knowing advantages and disadvantages of each.
Candidates should have working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. They should have good verbal and written communication skills and a strong desire to learn and contribute in a fast-paced team environment. At a minimum an Interim Secret clearance will be required to start.
